Using equipment during events and live broadcasts

Check if you need a licence

For equipment with a limited range and low transmission power, you don't need a licence. An example of license-free use is wireless microphones.
For equipment like intercom, video, and audio connections, you often do need a licence.

Applying for a licence for equipment

There are two options:

  • A licence for audio and video connections, where you coordinate frequencies with other users.
  • An event licence for exclusive frequency use. This gives you less chance of interference. An event licence is granted for the duration of one event.

Seasonal permit for events

It is possible to apply for a seasonal licence for two or more events at the same location. This licence is valid for one season, with a maximum duration of one calendar year. It is more cost-effective than applying for a separate licence for each event. However, a seasonal licence cannot be requested for two or more events at different locations. If you specify multiple locations, a licence will be granted and charged separately for each location.

Set equipment to the correct frequency

The radio spectrum is limited and shared by multiple users. The use of many communication devices in a small area can lead to serious connection disruptions. Safety may be compromised if organizations and emergency and security services cannot communicate. Therefore, make sure you set your equipment to the frequency specified in your licence and do not use more power than necessary. This will prevent interference. The RDI monitors the use of radio frequencies and ensures that everyone complies with the regulations.

Event licence fees

The costs for an event licence are calculated based on hourly rates, as it is customized. The fees are determined by the number of frequencies and the complexity of the frequency planning.
